Services for Mrs. Josephine Holmes will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Alexandria with Brother Roger LaCaze and Donal Milton officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.

The family requests that visitation be observed Saturday at Hixson Brothers, Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Mrs. Holmes, 85, of Alexandria passed from this life, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Lexington House.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Alexandria. Mrs. Holmes was a graduate of LaSalle High School. She is fondly remembered because of her love of crocheting and her love of sports, especially girl’s softball and basketball. Her greatest passion was spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holmes was an enterprising person, starting her own drive-in business in 1965, “Jo’s Drive In”. She is fondly remembered and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Nell Alexander Milton; sisters, Carolyn Thompson and Cora Mae Bass.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 47 years, Michael “Mickey” Holmes; daughters, Debbie VanDevelde and husband, Andy of Katy, Texas, Sandra Barnhill and husband, Greg of Haughton; brothers, Donal Milton and wife, Jerry of Olla, Richard Milton and wife, Florence of Jena; sister, Mary Thiels of Alexandria; grandchildren, Scotty Smith, Stephanie VanDevelde, Sarah Cutter and husband, Nick, Victoria Barnhill.

Special thanks to her niece, Connie Chambley, for her dedicated love and care to the end.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Smith, Stephen Owen, Richard Rougeau, Charles Clark, Elder Wilson, Elder Hardick and Elder Butler.

The family request memorials be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
