Sybil A. Ward, age 88, daughter of John and Mary McGuffey, who was born, December 27, 1927 in Rising Fawn, Georgia passed away May 14, 2016 at her daughter’s home in the care of her family in Jacksonville, Florida.
Sybil worked in the insurance industry and retired from Interstate Life Insurance Company after 20 years of service. She attended Florida State College of Jacksonville and earned her AS degree in Business, as well as obtained her real estate license. She was very active with her church, St. Paul United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and worked with the youth ministry for years. She was a den mother for the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and a former Vice President of the Arlington Junior Woman's Club. She was an avid soccer mom and grandmother. She loved the Jaguars and was a season ticket holder for many years. She loved the beach and her mountain, Lookout Mountain. She loved all animals and saw the beauty in all living things. She always put children first in helping many families and she and her husband, Cecil adopted two children and raised many more.
Sybil was preceded in death by her father, John G. McGuffey; her mother, Mary Hise McGuffey; her sister, Shirley McGuffey Logan; her brother, Maurice McGuffey and her eldest son, Glenn Cecil Ward.
She was a devoted wife and mother who is survived by her husband of 68 years, Cecil A. Ward; her daughter, Angi Ward Worthy; her five sons, Skylar, Jason, Mel, Jody and Owen Ward. Five Grandchildren, Adam Ward, Amanda Bowen, Owen Ward, Jr., Jennifer Ashton, Jeffrey Ward and four great-grandchildren.
