Dennis (Denny) Loy Schmidt passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the age of 71.
Denny is preceded by his parents, Carl and Alma Schmidt, and his sister Carla Garcia.
Denny is survived by his wife Barbara of 43 years. They were married in Louisville, Kentucky on June 20, 1973. Denny is also lovingly remembered by his brother Todd Schmidt; his son Clay Wey and wife Maria Wey; Beth Bickham and husband Darrell Bickham; Leta Kresta and husband Tad Kresta; and loving grandchildren Dennis Bickham, Sydney Bickham, Aiden Kresta, Grayson Kresta and Addison Kresta.
Denny was born in Syracuse, Kansas and graduated from Holly High School in Holly, Colorado. He then served four years in the Navy where he was honorably discharged and went on to find his calling on the starting gate. Denny worked for over 40 years and had the opportunity to see so many places, meet so many wonderful people, and work with the animals he loved. 10 years ago he became the starter at Delta Downs. Denny enjoyed reading and fishing, but most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and dogs.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 am on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 1845 Highway 109 South, Vinton, LA 70668. Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton.
