ROBERT J. REIS

Motorcycle Crash Kills Two Young Men Both Thrown Off Vehicle Into Trees
Victims From Two Rivers; Police Probing
Injuries received in a motorcycle accident in Point Beach State Forest about
four miles northeast of this city proved fatal to a pair of young men from
Two Rivers over the weekend.
The victims were Robert J. Reis, 20, of 1616-A Washington St., and Daniel J.
Baker, 22, of 1403-20th St.
Baker died of injuries received in the accident at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Two
Rivers Municipal Hospital and Reis passed away shortly before noon Sunday at
the same place.
Dr. Theodore Teitgen, county coroner, said both men suffered extensive
injuries.
No Witnesses
The accident occurred shortly after 3:15 p.m. Saturday on a road four tenths
of a mile inside the state forest entrance at a deceptively sharp curve.
County police said there were no apparent witnesses to the crash.
The motorcycle on which the youths were riding ran off the curve and hit a
clump of birch trees, throwing both off the vehicle.
Two girls on a tandem bicycle, (private) of Two Rivers, discovered the
accident after hearing faint cries for help by one of the youths.
County Police Offices John Hartl and Ray Hronek said the youths had been
removed from the scene by ambulance when they arrived to investigate.
Forced Off Road
Reis told police at the hospital later that the motorcycle was forced off the
road by an unidentified oncoming car. The motorcycle was northbound at the time.
Police said they were investigating the statement made by Reis but had not been
successful in uncovering corroborating evidence.
Doctor Tetigen said he would wait to see if there was additional evidence before
deciding whether or not to hold an inquest into the accident.
Deaths of the two young men raised the county’s 1965 traffic fatality toll to
seven compared with 11 at this point a year ago.
Born in 1944
Robert Reis was born Dec. 12, 1944, at Mishicot, a son of the late John and Mrs.
Loretta Bolzenthal Reis Nelson. He attended Holy Cross Parochial School at
Mishicot, and Mishicot Community High School and was graduated from Valders High
School in 1963. He had been em-

ployed at the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry at Manitowoc. He was a member of the
Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and the Seagulls of Manitowoc.

maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bolzenthal, of the Town of Two Rivers.
