Lebbeus Wilfley was an attorney who first practiced in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1900, he was appointed a judge of the Court of First Instance of the Philippines and soon after appointed Attorney General of the Philippines.

In 1906, he was appointed Judge of the United States Court for China and served in that position until the end of 1908, when he returned to the United States to practice in Missouri and New York.

In 1917, he married Belle L. Zabriskie (nee Loader), widow of Alanzo M. Zabriskie.
