John Forrest McAlister long time resident of Atwater, CA passed away on July 13, 2016 with his loving family by his side. John was born on January 17, 1938 to John and Lucille McAlister in Los Angeles, CA.
John entered the military service after graduating high school. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Castle Air Force base located in Merced, CA John met his future wife Edna McAlister at A young peoples social club at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church located in Merced. They would have been married 58 years this November. After his military service John became an employee of Chevron Oil Refinery located in El Segundo, CA. He was employed at Chevron for 31 years as an electrician and an electrical instructor.
John's passions in life were the outdoors, fishing, camping, flying and building radio control planes, dragsters and working on anything mechanical.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, former member of Merced County Radio Control Club, and South Bay Chevron Texaco Retirees Association. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his loving wife, Edna McAlister, children, Shawn McAlister and Debbie Carpenter, two brothers, Keith McAlister and Gary Gene McAlister, sister, Linda Munoz, sister-in-law, Barbara Lancaster, 4 grandchildren, Ayla Carpenter, Zachary McAlister, Naomi Carpenter and Wyatt McAlister, and 2 great grandchildren, Lucas McAlister and Kacey Nuisuamalie.
A Catholic Chapel Service will be on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 11 AM at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel, 1290 Winton Way. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at Winton District Cemetery. Casual Attire is preferred come as you are.
