Larry Yates, age 68, passed away on July 14, 2016 at home in Anchorage surrounded by family after a short illness. He was born in Spokane, Washington to Paul and Fay Yates on October 9, 1947.
Larry spent most of his life in Anchorage. He served in the Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He returned home at the end of his enlistment. Larry worked as a sprinkler fitter for over 40 years until his employment was cut short by a stroke in 2004. Larry spent his remaining years enjoying his grandchildren, watching dance recitals, hockey games, motor-cross races and spending time with his youngest grandson Dillon.
Larry was a member of the Antique Auto Mushers Club and a proud owner of a Model A. He looked forward to his time spent traveling and storytelling with club members who quickly became close friends. The family wishes to express their appreciation to his many friends for being part of Larry’s life.
Larry is survived by many loving family members and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his father and brother.
A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 5 PM on Friday, July 22, 2016. There will be a reception at the church following the service.
There will be a private burial at Angelus Memorial Cemetery.
Larry requested donations can be made in his name to benefit military veterans.
