Obituary for Lydia Jim Kimbrough Simmons

Lydia Jim “Jamie” Kimbrough Simmons, 95, passed away April 25, 2016, at Allen Morgan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born September 14, 1920 in Shelby County, Tennessee, and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1938.
Lydia worked for the United States government beginning at Mallory Airforce Depot in Millington and retiring in Memphis from the United States Postal Service. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed sewing, decorating for the holidays, traveling, playing cards, and spoiling her grandchildren. Her family has been established in Shelby County since 1791.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Lydia Josepha Graham Kimbrough and James Kimbrough, sisters: Sophia Graham Sledge, Sallie Joyce Trobaugh, and Pet Jamison, and her eldest son, Andrew Mason Simmons, Jr.
Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Andrew Mason Simmons Sr., son Kimbrough Graham Simmons (Beth), grandsons Andrew and Graham, several nieces and nephews including Joyce Bruno who was a dedicated caregiver for Lydia, and many friends. Lydia is also survived by the many therapists (especially Harriet, Kadie, and Pat), certified nursing assistants, and nurses who cared for her with grace and compassion at Allen Morgan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 29 from 11:30-1:00PM with the funeral service to follow immediately. All services will be held at Memorial Park.
