Floyd Bernard Hammar Jr., 84, went home to be with the Lord on February 7, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 3, 1931 in Akron, Ohio to the late Floyd B. Hammar, Sr. and Violet (Brown) Hammar and was a life resident of the area. Floyd graduated from Garfield High School and married Betty (Reed) Hammar on November 19, 1960. He retired from Goodyear Aerospace after more than 30 years of service and attended North Springfield Presbyterian Church. Floyd began playing drums in high school, belonged to the Akron Musicians' Union, and was in several orchestras. He taught drum lessons from his home and still enjoyed drumming up until five years ago. Floyd had a passionate interest in trains and building model planes.

Preceded in death by parents; siblings, Jean Petty and Bobby Hammar. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou Reed (Larry) Lisic, Linda J. Reed (Jerry) Luttrell, and Janet L. Reed (John) Ristity; grandchildren, Kelly (Todd) Zverloff, Michael (Kerri) Luttrell, Andy Luttrell, Brian Lisic, and Jenna Lisic; great grandchildren, Kendal and Ava Zverloff; niece, Becky Shively; nephew, David Slawter.

Friends and family will be received TONIGHT (Tuesday) from 5 to 7 p.m. and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron/Ellet, Ohio 44312. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. with Pastor Lynn Thompson Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to North Springfield Presbyterian Church, 671 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312.
