George Donald Smith, age 88, of Danese, WV, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Raleigh Center in Daniels, WV.

Born on June 10, 1928, in Prince, he was the son of the late Oley E. Smith and Nellie Kincaid Smith of Abraham.

Mr. Smith was a retired railroad engineer for the C&O Railroad. He said the happiest time of his life was with his mother for the ten years they were alone at their home. Mr. Smith had made his home in Danese all of his life and loved gardening and woodworking.

He was a member of Laurel Lodge Number 104, AF & AM Masonic Lodge, Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of WV, Knights of Templar in Mount Hope, Shriners International, Order of Eastern Star, Mount Hope, and the National Order of Retired Railroad Veteran Employees. Mr. Smith attended Layland Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Arnold, Harlie, Charles and James Smith, and by sisters, Mabel Morse and Thelma Smith.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his sisters, Katie J. Smith of Oak Hill, Nellie R. Kincaid of Beckley, and Velma Hudkins of Charleston. Numerous nieces, nephews and many cousins also survive. The family extends special thanks to helper Roger Kincaid and Dan and Debbie Shuck.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 2 PM with Rev. Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will follow at the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery at Abraham. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Sunday.
