Death of Aaron Curtis
This community was shocked by the announcement last week of the sudden death of one of the old time citizens of this community, Mr. A.C. Curtis, who died at his home in Pawnee, Okla., at 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, 1912. He was ill less than an hour, death resulting from neuralgia of the heart. Only his wife was at his side when death came, so sudden was the end. Mr. Curtis was 62 years, 6 months and 19 days old.
Up until a few months ago the deceased was a resident of Dexter, having retired from the farm near Dexter which he homesteaded more than a quarter of a century ago. He was a good citizen, a man who always sought to do the right thing, and whose character was without a blemish. His death was keenly felt by his many warm friends.
He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss. The children are Mrs. Sadie E. Walker, of Pawnee, Okla.; Mrs. Carrie B. Baker, of Dexter, Kan.; Mrs. Lola A Day, of Winfield, Kan.; Mrs. Zula M. Hankins of Pawnee, Okla., and Arthur H. Curtis of Pawnee, Okla.
Mr. Curtis was united in marriage to Miss Mary Jane Lefler, February 18, 1872, and to this union seven children were born, five of whom survive him as above noted. He was converted to the Christian faith in February 1896, and united with the Christian church at Highland, near Dexter, and lived a consistant Christian life till the end.
The funeral service was held in the Christian church of Dexter last Sunday at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Bradshaw of Pawnee, Okla. The service was very largely attended and after the last sad rites the body was buried in Dexter cemetery.
His most important legacy to his family and to his host of friends is his upright life against which no reproach can be brought, and which will ever be fondly cherished in the memory of those left behind. Having lived a just life, he has gone to the reward of the just.
