Gene was born and raised in South Carolina, until the time he enlisted in the Air Force. He retired, after proudly serving his country for 20 years. He then began a long career as an electrician. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching baseball, and enjoying the many birds that visited his yard. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife Jeannette.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jeannette E. Porter, three grandchildren, his parents, his sisters and brothers.
He is survived by his children, Gene Allen Porter, Jr. (Liz), of Tennessee, Theresa (Milton) Fletcher of Harlem, Linda (David) Powell of Hephzibah, Carolyn (Danny) Aldridge of Augusta, Brenda Sills of Hephzibah, and Jeffrey (Nora) Porter, of Virginia; grandchildren, Lennie Fletcher, Chris Porter, Joseph Niemczyk, Barbara Newsome, Chad Aldridge, Angela Briatico, Amanda Green, Michelle Porter, Devin Aldridge, Daniel Sills, Shaun Porter, and Corey Porter, and thirteen great grandchildren.
He will be laid to rest during a private graveside service at Hephzibah Vance Cemetery.
