Mattie Sue Whiddon, 110, wife of the late Rep E. Whiddon, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Lake Crossing Nursing Home.
Mrs. Whiddon was born in Forsyth, Ga and lived most of her life in Harlem, Georgia.
She was a faithful member of the Harlem First Baptist Church where she was the teacher of the Sue Whiddon Married Couples Sunday School Class and served on many Church committees. She was a graduate of Georgia Teachers College for Women. She taught high school at Harlem High School and was named teacher of the years in 1961, 1962, and 1963. She retired from teaching at Richmond Academy. She was an avid bridge player. She was also awarded the Citizen of the Year from the City of Harlem. She served as President of the Harlem Women’s Club and Harlem Pioneer Garden Club as well as Secretary of the Harlem Memorial Cemetery Board.
A graveside Service will be held at Harlem Memorial Cemetery with the Dr. Robert J. Blankenship and Rev. Phillip Vestal officiating.
Survivors include her son, Butch Whiddon(Judy), one grandson, Bryce Whiddon, three great-grandchildren, Addie, Brandon, and Gracie and many nieces and nephews.
