Mason Arthur Jr., 69, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He passed peacefully after a short battle with colon cancer. A memorial service will be held at the North Liberty (Iowa) United Methodist Church on Friday, July 15, at 7 p.m. David was born on April 15, 1947 in Somerville, N.J., to David and Naomi (Squier) Arthur. He graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1964. After high school he attended heavy equipment training before serving in the U.S. Army in the 591st Engineers Company. He served in the Viet Nam War and was honorably discharged in 1968. David was an over-the-road truck driver for more than 30 years. He began driving in 1968 for Loft Seed Company in New Jersey. He became an owner-operator, driving for various companies before retiring in 2001 from Heartland Express in Iowa. David enjoyed his work, hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family. David was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Donna Mae (Curnow) Arthur. He is survived by his wife, Diane (Palle) Arthur;his children: Amy (CJ) Cornell, Anthony Arthur, and Megan (Jamison) Coleman; his sister Bonita Arthur; and six grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Homeless Veterans Outreach Center.
