COLBY Sr., Frederick William 82, passed away July 7, 2016, 7 pm, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Boston, MA. Fred was a decorated veteran of the United States Navy, and served from 1952-1979. This included a tour of duty of three years in Singapore, and four years in Tokyo, as a Naval Intelligence Specialist (YNCS). For 24 years he was a valued staff member at Saint Leo University. He retired as registrar. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a volunteer at the spouse abuse center in Dade City, and active in the local Relay for Life. He touched many people's lives and was held in high regard by many. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Willow Jean Whatley-Colby; children, Frederick William Jr. (Gail), Susan; and adopted daughters, Kristen and Jennifer (Chad); grandchildren, Veronica, Frederick William III (Heather), and Mary; four great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Annie Cooke; daughter-in-law, Terri Colby; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by daughter, Jennifer. A funeral service will be celebrated at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 114412 US Hwy 301, Dade City, Wednesday, July 13, 11 am. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. Comittal and Military Honors will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens cemetery.
