He was born on April 17, 1932 in Kerens, WV, and was Methodist by faith. He was so very proud of his country and especially proud to have served 23 years in the U S Air Force. He retired from the U S Air Force as Chief MSGT, as an Aircraft Inspector. He was known as "Bud" to most that knew him, he was a wonderful and loving person to all that had the pleasure of knowing him, and he was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Levi Cross and Violet Edna Cross; two brothers, Edwin Leslie "Eddie" Cross and John Charles "Johnny" Cross; and two sisters, Eleanor Louise "Dolly" Semones and Edna Mae Cross.
He is survived by his devoted companion and best friend, Audrey Vincent of Panama City, FL; one son, Michael S. Cross and wife Meg, of Kingsville, TX; two grandsons, Michael A. Cross of Kingsville, TX and Brian C. Cross and wife Shelby, of Fort Bragg, NC; one great grandson, Gavin Cross; three great granddaughters: Sydney Cross and Gwendolyn Cross, of Fort Bragg, NC and Ambria Holcomb of CO; two sisters, Ella Mae "Tiny" Canfield, of Kerens, WV, and Molly Marie Jackson and husband Pearley, Jr. of East Lynn, WV; many special nieces and nephews; a host of Audrey's children who loved him dearly, enjoyed spending time with him, and hearing all his wonderful and funny stories: Jeanette Hawthorne, Jesse Pope, Tony Vincent, Paula Bunch (Charlie), Sandra Lawrence (Dickie), Ronnie Vincent, Connie Mettille (Mike), and their extended families, all of Panama City, FL; and his very special little friend and buddy, Gatlyn Foster (Gatty), who loved seeing him, and always giving him a big hug.
A very special thanks to the many special employee's that took such good care of "Bud" during his stay at Sims Veterans Home, Covenant Hospice, and the many friends that were so sweet and caring that he met while at the VA home.
A memorial service will be held at Heritage Funeral Chapel, Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 6 until 8 P.M. with Chaplain Michael Bryan officiating. Arthur L. "Bud" Cross will be laid to rest with his family in the Israel Church Cemetery, in Kerens, WV.
