James William Wilson, 90, of Lebanon Junction, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Baptist Health Louisville. He was a long time member of Dennie Memorial United Methodist Church. He was very active in the Lebanon Junction community. He served on the Lebanon Junction City Council. He also was a member of the Lion's Club, Bullitt County Civil Defense, and was a Boy Scout Scout Master.

Wilson was the Lebanon Junction City Fire Chief for 18 years. In fact, he and two other men were the ones who got the fire department started. In the early years of the fire department, they got their equipment as salvage from the US Army. Today, the department has state-of-the-art equipment, and stands as a real inspiration as to what can be done when three men set their minds to do something!

James was a US Army veteran of World War II. He went on to active duty on 27 Oct 1943 when he was 18 through Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He had been a farmhand, and a grammar school graduate. In the US Army, he certified as a truck driver (light), and eventually ended up with the 697 Medical Ambulance Company overseas. He went in as a Private, and eventually became a Private First Class (PFC). While serving, he earned the following decorations and citations: American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon. James was separated from the US Army on 14 Mar 1946 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He spent several months in the European Theater of Operations, and then was sent to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater for a longer time. Finally, he received an Honorable Discharge for his service.

After the war, James got a job as a packer at the General Mills Plant in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky. Some time later, he went to work for Civil Service at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and this became his real career. He retired from Civil Service after many years. He was a tank mechanic, and a supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Faye Jones Wilson; parents, Charles and Ida May Auberry Wilson; brother, John Albert Wilson and four sisters, Della Gilkey, Catherine Chappell, Louise Maraman and Emalee Vittitow.

Survivors include his son, Gary Wilson (Charlotte); two daughters, Janice McKinney (Michael) and Cecilia Richerson (Rick); two brothers, Charles and Thomas Wilson; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and his special friend of 15 years, Hanni Kubilus.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, 15 July 2016, at Dennie Memorial United Methodist Church, 132 N. Brook Street, Lebanon Junction, Kentucky. Burial followed in the Lebanon Junction City Cemetery. Two active duty soldiers presented the U.S. Flag to the family, along with an Honor Guard from the American Legion.

Visitation was from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 14 July 2016, at Kappel Funeral Home in Lebanon Junction and after 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
