The Hon. David Thacher, Jr, known as "The Squire," was a salt manufacturer and Representative to the Massachusetts General Court. A college educated businessman, he lost his fortune to the embargo during the War of 1812 and never recovered it.

David moved from Yarmouth to Dartmouth, MA in 1807, then to Egg Harbor, NJ, to Lewes, DE and finally settling in Philadelphia, PA.

David's 1st wife: Sarah Gray (b. 21 Nov 1770/71 d. 21 Jul 1793 Yarmouth at age 23). They had 4 children, only 1 of which survived: Lothrop Russell, who later also moved to Philadelphia.

David married 2d wife Eunice Weld Noble on 25 Jun 1796 in Yarmouth. They had 12 children: Abigail Russell (1802-1876); Alfred (1806-1870); Arthur (1801-1869); Charles Fox (1812-1874); Cyrus Sylvester (1808-1892); David III (1897-1858); Eunice Noble (1811-1852); Frederick (1800-?); Henry (1799-1837); Lucy Weld (1804-1890); Martha Russell (1815-1890); and Oliver Noble (1798-1871).

David and Eunice were buried in the Thacher family plot in the now defunct Ronaldson Cemetery. When the City of Philadelphia ordered the cemetery be demolished in 1946, remains were moved to Forest Hills Memorial Park.
