Ann Williams Pierce, 82, passed away peacefully, to go and be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on June 17, 2016, with her loving family at her side. She was the daughter of Hatcher and Ima Williams, loving wife of the late Athlon “Mato” Pierce, and mother to the late Taylor Athlon “Taylor” Pierce. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, son Charles Anthony “Tony” Pierce, wife Joanna, grandchildren Joshua and wife Jessica, Alexandra, Michael, Jessica, and Jasmine, and two great-grandchildren, Heather Ann and Abigail.

Ann was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church, including the TEL Class and Tuesday Morning Bible Study Class, the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Xi Delta Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mom, Grandma, Aunt Ann, Momma Ann, or Ann, was a wonderful and loving wife to her husband, and loving Mother to her children. She was a loving, caring and doting Grandma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a kind and caring Aunt to so many of her beloved nieces and nephews and their families. She was affectionately known as Momma Ann to a host of her sons’ friends, young men and women who remained part of her life. She was Ann to so many friends.

Ann was born in Nansemond County and moved to Isle of Wight County with her parents, Hatcher W. and Ima S. Williams and siblings. The youngest of 10 children, she was preceded in death by her parents; Brothers Joel, Wendell, Watson, Furman, Thad, Charles and Bernard; and Sisters Isabel and Polly. Ann was a resident of Isle of Wight County for over 70 years and moved to Woodbridge, VA in 2015 to be nearer to her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

The family will be gathering at the residence of Wendy Williams, 1002 South Church Street, from Tuesday June 21st through Thursday June 23rd .

Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-7:30 pm, Wednesday, June 22 at Smithfield Baptist Church. A service celebrating Ann’s life will be held 11 am, Thursday, June 23 at Smithfield Baptist Church with Pastor Don Rhoton officiating. Dr. Rhoton will be assisted by Tommy Larson, Charles Jones, and Corey Williams, all who are great-nephews of Ann. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Park. Following the committal service, a reception will be held in the Smithfield Baptist Church Family Life Center.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Taylor A. Pierce Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Isle of Wight Academy, 17111 Courthouse Hwy, Isle of Wight, VA 23397, the Smithfield Baptist Church, Benevolence Fund, 100 Wainwright Drive, Smithfield, VA 23430, or the charity of your choice.
