Clyde William Surratt, 88, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 9, 2016.

Clyde was born April 15, 1928, in Akron, Colorado, the son of Charles and Clara (Bale) Surratt. The family moved to Morrill, Nebraska where Clyde grew up and attended school. He joined the Army and served two years in the Security Agency in Japan during the Korean War. On June 20, 1954 he married Katheryn McCabe and the couple raised two children, Ron and Diane. He enjoyed following their school activities and coaching Little League and Church League. Clyde and three other fathers dressed chickens and had a chicken noodle dinner to raise money to buy equipment for the first Girls Softball team in Torrington. Clyde was always proud of being a Mason and a Shriner. You may have recognized the clown. Clyde had 3 nephews who had polio, one of which had several surgeries that were all taken care of by Shriner’s Hospital for crippled children. He said at that time, if he was ever in a position where he could, he would become a Shriner and help other children. He worked as an Auto Parts Manager for the Ford Garage for 42 years. He knew and enjoyed visiting and joking with almost every guy in the Torrington area.

Clyde was an active member of the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church, serving as Deacon, Elder, Youth Leader and Skipper of the local and regional Mariner’s groups. He was a chapter member of the Last Platoon and a member of the Torrington American Legion.

Clyde also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife Kathy; son Ron (Deb) Surratt; daughter Diane (Uly) Carlini; grandchildren, Bailey Surratt and Adam, Angelica, Allie, Gabbie and Gi Gi Carlini; several nieces and nephews and a host of good friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Elmer “Brick”, Kenneth “Skinner” and Carol Surratt; four sisters, Leona Rowlee, Iris Broadbent, Helen Curtis and Hester Schmidt and two infant siblings.
