William Dean Tomlinson, age 96, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Woodlands Place in Denison, Texas. He was born May 9, 1920, near Whitewright, in Grayson County, Texas. His parents were Ewing Edward and Mary Tolleson Tomlinson. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1939. Dean volunteered for the Army Air Corps in January 10, 1942, and was assigned to Sheppard Field, Texas. He served at different bases in the U.S. and transferred to Stone, England, in early 1943. His ship was delayed for two or three months in Nova Scotia for repairs. Dean was assigned as a supply sergeant in the 70th Replacement Depot in Stone, England. He traveled as a courier in England and Scotland, remaining in England until the end of the War.

In November 1945 Dean left England and was released from active duty. He worked as a salesman in Denison and at the Grayson Hotel in Sherman. In January 1953 Dean married Elna Moon. He was in sales and manager for Sears Stores in Texas and Oklahoma for 29 years. After retiring from Sears in 1985, he and his wife settled in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. They were active members of Barcelona Road Baptist Church in the Village. After his wife’s death, Dean moved to Sherman, Texas in 2013. Dean was also a 54-year member of the Duncan, Oklahoma Masonic Lodge No. 60.

He is survived by two sisters, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews in Arkansas, Texas, Georgia, and California. Also, close friends, neighbor and many other friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elna; brothers, Spellman and Jesse Truman Tomlinson; nephews, Johnny Blaine Moon and Johnny Marvin Robertson.

Family viewing will be at Caruth Village Funeral Home, 4623 North Highway 7 in Hot Springs Village on Tuesday, July 12.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13 at Roselawn Cemetery in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.
