Sandi was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. She was a survivor of polio, which took the use of her legs at an early age. She participated in the London and Tokyo Paralympic Games, where she set a world record in the freestyle swimming event, along with several gold medals. Sandi was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church. She married her husband, Albert Carlson, on April 20, 1968, and together ran a successful business for many years at Carlson Tax and Accounting.
In addition to her husband of 48 years, she is also survived by her two sons: Jon Carlson (Debra) and Derek Carlson (Danyla Escalante); one sister, Candice Sprouse; one brother, Gary Simmons; and three grandchildren.
Sandi is laid to rest at Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
