Douglas C. “Sonny” Wylie of Leola, Arkansas was born July 18, 1938 at Carthage, Arkansas, the son of the late John E. Wylie, Sr. and Annie B. Gillis Wylie. He began work at Rock Island Railroad in 1961, which later became F&P Railroad, and he retired in 1999. He was a member of Carthage Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening and raising cattle. Sonny served his community well for many years. He was a member of the Grant County Fair Board for many years, was co-founder of D&R 16 Hunting Club, served for years on the Leola Cemetery Association, and also belonged to the Dallas County Cattlemen’s Association.

Mr. Wylie died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 77. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lee Wylie; grandson, Jarrod Wylie; sister, Betty Wylie; brothers, John E. Wylie, Jr. and wife Lucille, Lewis Richard and wife Bonnie Jean, Gene M. Wylie and wife Margene, Bill Wylie, Rex Wylie.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Smoot Wylie of Leola; son, Paul D. Wylie of Leola; daughters, Donna and husband Danny Rettstatt of Cabot, Susan Margaret Woods of Benton, Marsha Jo Wylie of Little Rock; sisters, Mary Lou Talbert of Benton, Joy Rogers of Tulip; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Wylie of Hampton, Margaret Wylie of Fordyce; grandchildren, Justin (Laura) Rettstatt, Amber (Drew) Cronkhite, Megan Wylie, Lathan Wylie; great grandson, Cooper Cronkhite; He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Carthage Presbyterian Church, Carthage, Arkansas. Burial will follow in Leola Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan.

Memorials may be made to Leola Methodist Church or Carthage Presbyterian Church.
