NEWTON - Robert Brown "Brownie" Bost, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born Feb. 25, 1924, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Earl E. and Mary Brown Bost.

Mr. Bost attended Newton-Conover City Schools and St. Andrews College at Laurenburg. He was a veteran of World War II, serving three years in the U.S. Air Force in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he served in the Newton National Guard. Mr. Bost was a lifelong member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Newton, and he retired from Duke Power Co. in 1981. He belonged to two bowling leagues.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Woodrow E. Bost and Earl Bost Jr., and sisters, Edna Barringer and Thelma Hoke.

He is survived by his loving wife, Iris Setzer Bost; a son, Robert Brown Bost Jr. and wife, Vicki; daughters, Sherry Bumgarner and husband, Charles, and Caroline Whisnant and husband, Robert; a brother, Coleman Bost and wife, Marcia, of Charlotte; a sister, Mary B. Squarillio of Dalton, Ga.; six grandchildren and four great-grandsons.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
