HEADLAND...George DeWitt Adams, 83, of Headland, died late Monday afternoon, August 28, in a Dothan hospital after a short illness.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, in the Midland City Cemetery with the Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating and Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. Military rites were conducted at the graveside.

A native of Headland, Mr. Adams was the son of the late William DeWitt Adams and Nellie Beatrice Smith Adams. He entered the U.S. Army in 1937 with the grade of Private and retired in 1957 as a Lt. Colonel, having served during World War Two and the Korean Conflict. After retirement from the Army, Mr. Adams was graduated from the University of Alabama and became a physicist with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. He retired from there in 1974. Mr. Adams returned to Headland three years ago from Huntsville where he had lived for thirty-seven years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the National Rifle Association, and was of the United Methodist faith.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his first wife, Cecil Earl Lipski Adams, and three brothers, Lewis C. Adams, Talmadge M.(Tad) Adams and Doyle S. Adams.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Robbie Bush Adams, Headland; son, Michael D. Adams, Chamblee, Ga.; two step-sons, Dell Bush and his wife, Jean Bush, Albany, Ga., Mike Bush and his wife, Kate Bush, Headland; sister, Nell Thompson and her husband, George Thompson, Midland City; a sister-in-law, Gladys Adams Howell, Dothan; a brother-in-law, Michael L. Lipski and his wife, Allison Lipski, Springhill, Fla; several nieces and nephews.
