Young Hawk was a Sahnish-Arikara scout at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, June 25, 1876. He first became a scout at the age of 17 and enlisted a second time at 20. When the Battle of the Little Big Horn began ten scouts were sent with Reno, and Young Hawk was one of those scouts.
