Robert Adrian Bowers was born in Blessing, Texas on February 4, 1920. He passed away peacefully on July 9, 2016 in Baytown, Texas at the age of 96.

Adrian grew up in a family of seven children during the Depression Era. At the age of 6, he moved with his family to Barbers Hill, Texas. He graduated from Barbers Hill High School in 1938 and was a member of several athletic teams. While at Barbers Hill, he met the love of his life, Naomi Williams of Cove, Texas. He attended Lee College until 1941 when he enlisted with the United States Army and was assigned to the Army Air Corps. After training, he was deployed to the China-Burma-India theater as part of the 492nd Bombardment Squadron of the 7th Bomb Group. He served as a flight engineer on a B-24 flight crew that often flew missions over "the Hump" into China. He remained close lifelong friends with his crew mates.

After returning home from the war, he married Naomi in 1946 and went to work for Humble Oil as an instrument technician. He worked for Humble Oil and subsequently Exxon until 1980.

Adrian had several passions during his life. He loved to fish with his long-time fishing buddies. He shared his love for fishing with his grandchildren, whom he took on numerous fishing trips. He loved to go camping with his family and took many trips to Marina Village and Toledo Bend. He also enjoyed many summer cross-country family vacations.

Adrian loved to spend time with his family. He especially loved having Sunday afternoon lunches and holidays with the full family, playing cards and dominos, and attending the annual Bowers family reunion. He was also a passionate sports fan, particularly of the Houston Astros and any team that one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren happened to be on.

While all of these things were important to Adrian, the most important thing to him was his life as a Christian. Adrian was a long-time member of the Seventh Street Church of Christ and served as an elder of the congregation for more than 35 years. Through the teaching and example of both he and Naomi, every one of his children and grandchildren obeyed the Gospel and are members of the Church of Christ. Adrian was very thankful that his extended family shared his love for the Church.

Adrian was preceded in death by his parents, George and Blanche Bowers; sisters Kathleen Bowers and Lillian Almon; and brothers Ray, Verner, Hubert, Weldon, and Richard Bowers.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Naomi Bowers; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Ronnie Benoit and Melanie and Glenn Dagley; grandchildren and their spouses, Brent and Christy Benoit, Brad and Kelly Benoit, Brian and Spring Benoit, Jeremy and Jennifer Dagley, Justin and Kristin Dagley, Brandon and Amber Benoit, Jeffrey and Jessica Dagley, Brittney and Zachary Pinkerton, and Jessica and Patrick Robinson.
