Gary B. Hewitt, age 69, of Buckhannon, WV died comfortably in the Pittsburgh VA Hospital on April 26, 2016. His family was with him.

Born on Jan. 14, 1947 in Parkersburg, WV, he was the son of Berlin E. and the late Ellen L. Hewitt.

He was the beloved husband of Dwanda V. McAtee Hewitt for 48 years; loving father of Kimberly (Steven) Hamner, Bruce Hewitt , and Tricia (John) Chadwick; cherished grandfather of Tiffany D. Hamner, Latisha N. (Jason) Tenney, Tabitha L. (Brian) Phillips, Tyson L. Hamner, Brandon A. Hewitt, Amanda M. Chadwick, Emily P. Chadwick, John R. Chadwick, Jr., and the late Titus L. Hamner, great grandfather of 6; dear brother of Larry M. (Patty) Hewitt, John A. (Bertha) Hewitt, Juanita M. (Mike), and the late Sandra K. (Bryan) Hardman; brother in law of McAtee siblings: “Cutch”, Roger, Shawn, J.K., Jackie, and the late Millard, and their spouses; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army Jan. 11, 1965 and served with the 25th Infantry Division (Tropical Lightning) in Vietnam from Dec. 1965 until his honorable discharge on Oct. 27, 1967. Gary was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a retired employee of Moore Business Forms/Moore North America.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2016 from 2 – 6 pm at Cleveland Avenue North End Park in Buckhannon. A brief military service will be conducted at 3 pm followed by a covered dish reception. In the event of rain, the gathering will be held at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 8, 2016 from 2- 6 pm. The family requests that everyone wear casual clothing.
