Known along with her husband as the "Peacemakers of Christ", Amata Lotti mothered at a late age a daughter named Margherita, known since her childhood and up to this day as Rita. An old story recalls that the day after the child's baptism, her family noticed a swarm of white bees flying around her as she slept in her crib. However, the bees peacefully entered and exited her mouth without causing her any harm or injury. Instead of being alarmed for her safety, her family was mystified by this sight. Rita's remaining story needs no introduction: widowed after a difficult marriage that lasted eighteen years, upon the death of her sons, she sought religious life, being ultimately accepted in the Augustinian convent at Cascia where she remained until her death in 1456. Hailed as the Patroness of Impossible Causes, she is one of the most known and devoted female saints worldwide.
