Gladys was the great grand-daughter of two of the founders of Utah, Elias Hicks Blackburn who was a Legislator for the Territory of Utah. And Isaac Behunin who discovered and named Zion Canyon, Utah. She was born on the high plains of Utah. Her mother moved Gladys and her brothers and sister to California in the 1930's. Gladys' brothers were, Owen, Leo, George, Ervin, Ted, Clive (who died at 9 of typhoid) she had one sister: Grace. Gladys married Oscar Smart on August 1, 1941. He is buried with her. She had six children: David, Jan, Charles, Irene, Frank and Rebecca. She loved to garden, cook and do many creative things. She could make anything grow. She was a great inspiration to all of her children.
