According to Death Certificate, John H. Russell died of Tuberculosis. He was a farmer. He came to Clay County KY from Tennessee, we believe Claiborne Co. TN. He later settled in Jackson Co. KY. His death certificate information was given by C.M. Russell, a grandson and therefore we are not sure if correct information has been given concerning his parents. Daniel Fox the undertaker signed the death certificate and stated that John H. Russell was buried at Russell Flat Cemetery on 12-19-1914. The stone for his grave has not been found as far as we know. KY, John Henry Russell is listed with wife Polly, 36; children - Martha, 19; Sarah, 15; Jane, 12; William, 10; Dawson, 4; and Daniel Boone, 5 months.
Prior to living in Clay Co. KY and Jackson Co., John was listed in the 1850 Claiborne Co. TN living with Matthew Russell and Mathew Russell's step-son, L.C. Reed.
John H. Russell enrolled as a private in 12-14-1863; mustered in 12-28-1863 Camp Nelson for 1 year, Co. K, 47th KY Mounted Infantry. He suffered a gunshot wound, desented without leave.
He is listed as a member of the Drip Rock Baptist Church.
