Uncle Bud was born in Quinlan, Texas to John Crittington (J. C.) and Lucy Ellen Scarbrough Hodge.

He was the baby of a family. His older siblings were Etta Genetta Hodge, Frances Lillie Mae Hodge, George Lemuel Hodge (died as an infant), Zora Belle Hodge Bacon, and Dora Anna (Aunt Annie) Hodge.

Uncle Bud married Nellie Odom on September 30, 1916.

His and Nellie's children were Lonvard (Lon) Lee Hodge, Michale Hodge, Janette Virgina Hodge, Katherine Ellen Hodge, and Melva Dean Hodge.
