Craig resident, Michael Gharrett Farnsworth, died as a result of a motorcycle accident on Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction. He was 69 years of age.
A memorial service celebrating Michael’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2016, at the New Creation Church. Michael will be laid to rest near his father at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2016.
Michael Gharrett Farnsworth was born the son of Donald Ora and Oma (Redden) Farnsworth on May 6, 1947, in Denver, Colorado. She spent his childhood and attended schools in Denver. After graduating from high school, Michael enlisted with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
On October 5, 1974, Michael married Sherry Farnsworth in Castlerock, Colorado. The couple moved to Germany for a year before returning back to the United States. Following his military service, Michael furthered his education at Arapahoe Community College and Metro State Community College where he studied Industrial Arts. His love for mechanics spanned a 40+ year career as a self-employed mechanic.
In his spare time, Michael enjoyed building model airplanes, spending time in the great outdoors, watching the Denver Broncos and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. More importantly, he was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.
Michael is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years, Sherry Farnsworth of Craig; his mother, Oma Redden of Florida; his six children: Donald (Shannon Martinez) Farnsworth of Aurora, CO, Lisa (Gabriel) Frederick of Cedar Rapids, IA, Abraham Farnsworth of Oakland, CA, Isaiah (Heather) Farnsworth of Broomfield, CO, Nicholas Farnsworth of Ft. Collins, CO and Scott Garretson of Denver, CO; and two sisters, Carol Ann Davis of Florida and Janet Farnsworth of Denver, CO. Michael is further survived by 7 grandchildren: Anthony Farnsworth, Thomas Garretson, Gharrett & Derek Khol, Adia & Sheralynn Frederick and Ariel Farnsworth; two great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members.
