Donald L Cookman, 89, of Anderson, passed away on July 8, 2016 at the Community Northview Care Center. He was born on January 16, 1927 in Anderson, Indiana.
Donald served his country in the Army during WWII.
He was a retired Construction Worker and member of the Laborers and Hod Carriers Union.
He was a member of Central Christian Church where he was Deacon Emeritus and the American Legion. He participated in many work projects with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) including ones in Denver, Mobile and Honduras. He was a dedicated blood donor.
Donald is survived by his loving spouse whom he married March 13, 1953, Kathleen (Forkner) Cookman; children, Harold (Debbie) Cookman, Clifford R. (Helen) Cookman, Sarah . (Terry Bratton) Cookman, Paul Cookman; grandchildren, Melissa Cookman, Kelly Buzan, Tiffany Cookman, Casi (Jason) Cummins, Jessica (Brandon) Smith, Jennilee Cookman, Clifford J. (Stacey) Cookman, great-grandchildren, Aundrea and Eli Smith, Jack and Jagger Cummins, Liam Cookman, sisters-in-law, Bessie and Midge Cookman and Mariwanda Forkner and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Edna Cookman; 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 12:00 pm - 2:00pm, service immediately following with Jim Millikan officiating at Central Christian Church, 923 Jackson Street, Anderson, IN 46016.
Burial will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park with military rites by the VFW.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church.
