Professional Bullfighter. Grajera born Víctor Barrio Hernanz was one of Spain's top award-winning and most appreciated matadors. Making his debut as a bullfighter without picadors on July 13, 2008 at Las Ventas de Retamos, Toledo, cutting four ears and a tail, he finished the 2008 season with twenty four celebrations in which he cut forty five ears and six tails, being recognized as the best bullfighter and winning the I Certamen Segovia-Centro. Becoming a picador the following year, debuting at Sepúlveda in his native Segovia, after thirty eight rounds he got sixty five ears across Arles, Vistalegre, Albacete, Palencia and El Puerto de Santa María. Awarded the prestigious trophy "Manuel Cascales Hilla" for bullfighters without picadors at Los Felices, Murcia, and the "Pino de Plata" at Huertas del Rey, Burgos, he was proclaimed winner of the novilladas of Soria and Algete. Finishing the season with ten novilladas with picadors in which he cut twenty three ears and a tail, he soon became the winner of the novillada contests of Collado Mediano, Guadarrama, Méntrida and Hoyo de Manzanares, being also awarded the trophy "Mesonero Mayor de Castilla" as Segovia's top bullfighter. With his performances being recognized with various other awards, including ones from the senior club of the community of Madrid and the Círculo Cultural Taurino Puerta Grande as the best novillero, in 2011 he gave a performance in Quito, Ecuador, which saw the participation of many. On Saturday, July 9, 2016, while bullfighting at the Corrida de Toros of Teruel, a gust of wind blew Barrio's cape, giving a 529-kg bull he was fighting, named Lorenzo, a chance to strike him. The bull's horns perforated Victor's chest several times. Transported to the bullring's infirmary, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, with paramedics unable to resuscitate him after suffering a cardiac arrest. The autopsy revealed that Barrio's lungs and thoracic aorta had been pierced while death occurred as a result of being gored by the bull's horns in the thorax through the armpit, penetrating the right lung and causing the rupture of the aorta, successively leading to massive blood loss. With his death streamed live on TV, the incident occurred in the presence of many, including Victor's wife, whom he married in 2014, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy led tributes to Barrio, with most of the festival events cancelled upon his passing. Barrio's death proved to be an unexpected shock to many, but was however unfortunately mocked and celebrated by several others on Facebook, with posts saying that he deserved to die, wishing the bullfighter to burn in hell and saying that his painful death was fitting, to the extent that police inquiries opened an investigation against such comments. In the meantime, moving tributes were given to Barrio, first during the lying in state at the Polideportivo of Sepúlveda and successively at the funeral held at the San Bartolome church of the same locality. Cremated at the Cantalejo crematorium, Barrio was the first Spanish bullfighter to die in the bullring since 1985.
