Barbara Jean (Haney) Conrad, age 75, died peacefully after a long battle with colon cancer in her home residence of Silver Spring, Maryland under JSSA Hospice and family care. With her children by her bedside, Barbara entered the gates of heaven on the morning of June 27, 2016. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late, James (Jim) Edward Conrad and devoted mother of the late, Douglas (Doug) Lynn Conrad.

Barbara Jean was born May 17, 1941, in Mill Creek, West Virginia, to loving parents Oral and Lula (Fincham) Haney. Barbara married the love of her life, Jim Conrad, a U.S. Navy Veteran on September 5, 1960. Upon completion of Jim’s Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the West Virginia University of Technology, the family including their three children, Tammie, Doug, and Terry briefly moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida and then in 1964 moved to Bermuda for her husband’s career work with the NASA Bermuda tracking station. The family, including newest member, Robert relocated back to the states and made Silver Spring, Maryland their permanent home where their last addition to the family, Shannon was born.

Barbara was an avid reader of science and health; she also enjoyed gardening, exercising, and being healthy. Her thirst for knowledge and unwavering faith in God was apparent through her writings, teachings, and actions. Barbara was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and was always excited to be a ‘Mamaw’ to her 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Barbara loved the holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. Barbara was known for her great love of family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren and also her love for life.

Barbara is survived by her four children, Tammie Jean (Conrad) Taylor, Terry Edward Conrad, Robert James Conrad, and Shannon Lula (Conrad) Deen; thirteen grandchildren, Michael Conrad Taylor, Melissa Jean (Taylor) Ramsey, Jessica Marie (Taylor) Queen, Zachary Ray Taylor, Chelsey Jean Conrad, Terry Edward Conrad Jr., James Alexander Conrad, Natalia McKay Conrad, Emma Elizabeth Conrad, Andrew Jamal Deen, Adrian James Deen, Shaina Elizabeth Deen, and Sarah LuAnn Deen, and five great grandchildren, Phillip Taylor Ramsey, Michael Conrad Taylor Jr., Matthew Charles Taylor, Mason Robert Taylor, and Taylor Marie Queen, and two brothers that reside in West Virginia with their families, Richard (Rich) Haney and Roger Haney.

She is preceded in death by her eldest son, Douglas Lynn Conrad and her husband, James Edward Conrad. Her brothers; Thurman, Harold, Carl, June, and Jerry Haney. Sisters; Geraldine, Maxine, Mary (Haney) Runner, Gatha (Haney) Pierce. Parents, Oral Henry Haney and Lula Gertrude (Fincham) Haney.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Barbara Jean Conrad will be held on July 8, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Ashton United Methodist Church conducted by Pastor Emily Berkowitz, 17314 New Hampshire Ave. Ashton, MD 20861. Graveside committal service immediately following, at the Union Cemetery, 3001 Spencerville Rd. Burtonsville, MD. 20866 All arrangements under the direction of Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Silver Spring, MD. 20904. Immediately following the graveside committal service the family invites you to join them for a "Celebration of Life" reception in Barbara's memory starting at 12 noon at The Inn at Brookeville Farm, 19501 Georgia Avenue.
