Pat attended Collins Elementary and Saint Martin’s High School. As soon as he was old enough, he joined the Coast Guard. He was a member of the Coast Guard for four years. Pat was honorably discharged with the rank of Third Class Enginemen in 1984. When he left the Coast Guard, he became a self-employed mechanic.

Pat also joined the fire department (1958-1959) as a volunteer firefighter. After his service in the Coast Guard he once again returned as a volunteer firefighter. He obtained the rank of Lieutenant and one year later became a full time paid firefighter. In 1979, when Pat’s father passed away, he took over as the Central Pierce County Fire Department Commissioner. Pat served as Fire Commissioner for a period of 12 years. When he retired, Pat moved to Tokeland, WA and became involved in the community. He became Fire Commissioner for Tokeland and served in that position for 15 years until his passing.

Pat attracted people wherever he went and had a heart to build up a sense of community.
