Believed to be illegimate by George Durant (1776-1844) and Mary Jane Bradbury (Governess). Note the "Durant" surname is carried by many in the family as their middle name.

George and his wife, Matilda, came from Plymouth, England to Plymouth, New Zealand in 1841. They were married August 8, 1842, in New Plymouth, NZ; 9 known children: George Durant Fitzclarence, Emma Lamour, Leonard Shaw, Louis Edwin, Douglas, Celeste Bella, Lydia, George Celestine, and Mary Charlotte (St. George) King
