FORT COVINGTON — Funeral services for William F. Boyle, 89, of Pike Street, Fort Covington, were held Monday at St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington Rev. Hart officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Boyle died Friday (July 14, 1989) at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken with a heart attack at his home on July 13. Surviving are four sons, William R. of Newburgh, Richard L. of Port Washington, Donald J. of Albany and John S. of North Salem. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harry and Richard; and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Moquin. He was born in Manchester, N.H. on Nov. 28,1899, son of Peter and Mary (McAuliffe) Boyle. In 1918, Mr. Boyle went to work the War Department in Washington D.C. as a clerk. He later served as a stenographer then an auditor for the U.S. Navy and General Accounting office. In 1922, he entered the U.S. Immigration Service, working throughout the years in Nova Scotia; Quebec City, Quebec; and St.Albans, Vermont. He moved to Fort Covington in 1931. He married Mae A. Peets of Brushton on Oct. 22, 1934 in St. Mary's Church, Brushton. Mr. Boyle was the fourth longest tenured federal employee in America, with only J. Edgar Hoover of the FBI, Postmaster General Farley and General Hershey, head of the Selective Service, having served longer. Mr. Boyle retired from the Fort Covington Port of Entry in 1962 as a U.S. Immigration Inspector after 45 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington
