Obituary:
"Mr. Jesse Sears, aged 103 years one of the oldest citizens of this county, died at the residence of Mr. Alex Collier, in this county, yesterday. He was a member of the M.E. Church for about 80 years, and his children number over 500. " (! must mean descendants!)---(Somerset Reporter) Source: "Found an obit that had been copied from a Somerset newspaper to the Interior Journal Stanford, Kentucky 04 Feb 1876, Fri • Page 1. It has been copied, so exact date is not 3 Feb 1876, but I'd say it is 1876, wouldn't you?" With many Thanks to Patsy Gadberry who found this and Betty Sears who passed it on to me. We're assuming the Jesse's birth year, based on the 1850 census, is correct and he was not actually 103 but 93 when he died. MLHughes

Note: This is a Baptist Church and the obituary notes that he was a Methodist -M.E. standing for Methodist Episcopal. Maybe his son-in law was a Baptist? There are Colyer family members buried here.
