Surveyor that drew Missouri’s southern and western boundaries and helped document the northern state line. He also executed the first government sanctioned surveys of St. Louis in the 1810s and 1820s and also served at one time or another as official county surveyor, St. Louis Sheriff, and Missouri state Senator.

There is a memorial marker for him in this plot, but his exact burial location is currently unknown. In his will, he requested the following:

"That my body be decently interred and if convenient, by the side of my infant daughter Ellen, and others of my relatives".
