George Nichols, only known son of Lieut. Cyprian Nichols, 3rd and Agnes Humphrey, bapt. Dec. 13, 1741 at the Hartford 1st Chh. He d. at Hartford and was interred Sept. 21, 1786 at Hartford's Ancient (Center Ch.) cemetery, Æ. 45.

By 1772 George m. Eunice Lord, dau. of John, bapt. Sept. 22, 1745 at Wethersfield (Ch. Rec.). She was interred Apr. 19, 1794 at Hartford's Ancient cemetery. They had at least four children born at Hartford:

• i. Cyprian Nichols, b. May 4, 1773 at Hartford where he d. Aug. 13, 1853 (g.s.); m. Apr. 18, 1798 at the Hartford 2nd Cong. Ch., Mary Sooter, dau. of John, b. Dec. 26, 1777 at The Hague, Province of Noort Holland, the Netherlands [see *1 below.] By 1807 they were active members of Hartford's Christ Church (Episcopal) and had six children: four reached maturity, only three married but only two had children.

• ii. Lucy Nichols, b. on or after Feb. 24, 1775, d. Feb. 23, 1831 at Hartford (g.s., ae. 55); m. as his 2nd wife, Henry Wadsworth, s. of Jonathan Wadsworth and Abigail Flagg, bp. July 29, 1764 at the Hartford 1st Ch. He d. Oct. 14, 1821 at Hartford, ae. 57. At least one confirmable child of the marriage. Wadsworth is claimed to have had upwards of ten children by his 1st wife, Betsey Bidwell, who was bur. Feb. 23, 1804 at Hartford's Ancient (Center Ch.) cemetery. That Lucy was the dau. of George Nichols and Eunice Lord is proved by Lucy's only confirmable child, dau. Mary Abigail Wadsworth, b. circa 1814. At her baptism at Hartford's Christ Ch. on Aug. 13, 1831, she is called the "orphaned niece of Cyprian Nichols," her uncle Cyprian and his wife Mary Sooter the sole sponsors-witnesses.

• iii. George Nichols, Jr., b. on or after Sept. 5, 1781, d. Sept. 4, 1848 at Hartford (g.s., æ. 67); m. Aug. 29, 1840 at the Hartford 4th Cong. Ch. (Hart. VRs), Clarissa Bidwell, whose parentage has not been found. She d. Mar. 10, 1847 at Hartford, (g.s., æ. 55). Both are interred at Hartford's Old North Cemetery at the same Section-Lot as the widow Lucy (Nichols) Wadsworth. While George appears as the only male member of his widowed mother's 1790 census entry (under 16) at Hartford, and despite a recorded marriage and death at Hartford, he does not separately appear in any census after 1790 and before his death. However, the continuous enumeration of brother Cyprian from 1800 through 1850 suggests that George, and their widowed sister Lucy in 1830, may have resided with brother Cyprian at Hartford.

• iv. An infant child, bur. Apr. 5, 1783 at Hartford's Ancient (Center Ch.) cemetery.

There may have been additional children of George Nichols and Eunice Lord, but the writer has yet to uncover them.

[*1] Their marriage appears in the records of Hartford's 2nd Congregational Church, and Mary's surname Sooter, the date and place of her birth, and identity of her father, is part of the short biographical sketch of Cyprian Nichols in "Contributions to the History of Christ Church, Hartford" (1895.) Barbour's printed Hartford Vital Records errors in claiming that on the same date (Apr. 18, 1798) "Cyprian Nichols m. Mary Spencer, dau. of Samuel," with the record credited to Frank Farnsworth Starr, the long-time late 1800s town clerk of Middletown, Conn. and well-respected published genealogist. However, the marriage of Cyprian Nichols printed in the Hartford VRs was of Capt. Cyprian Nichols, Jr. (great grandfather of Cyprian Nichols who married in 1798) to his 2nd wife Mary Spencer in 1704. The Cyprian Nichols who married Mary Sooter in 1798 descends from Lieut. Cyprian Nichols, 3rd, the youngest child of Capt. Cyprian Nichols, Jr. by his 1st wife Helena Talcott.
