William Hill Boyett was born in Duplin Co., North Carolina, on 27 July 1834. He was the son of Jesse Boyet(t) and his mother is believed to be Keziah. William came to then Lowndes about 1853 and acquired land near present day Ray City, GA. There he married Jemima Taylor on Christmas Day 1856, She was a Daughter of William Jackson Taylor and Samantha Rogers. William and Jemima's children were Sarah, William Jackson, John, Samantha Jane, Delilah, Isaac, Annie, Mary, Jemima, Jesse, and Arrilla. Their descendants are numerous in this portion of southern Georgia today.


Genealogist and Historian Folks Huxford wrote; "Mr. BOYETT volunteered Aug. 22, 1862, in Co., "I", 50th Georgia Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., as a private. He was detailed as a shoemaker Nov. 17, 1862 and sent to Columbus, Ga., where he rendered that service to the army until February, 1865. He was paroled at Thomasville, May 11, 1865, and returned home."

The descendants of William Hill and Jemima, host an annual Boyette Family Reunion near Ray City.
