Elizabeth L. ("Beth") Fowler, age 96, of Murray, passed away peacefully in her sleep in South Jordan on July 5, 2016.

Beth was born in Clearfield on May 1, 1920 to George William Layton and Martha Love Layton. She attended local schools and graduated from Davis High School in 1939. Finances precluded her from attending college, so she went to California to work for a short time.

When her father sent a letter asking her to come home, she was disappointed but returned anyway. This turned out to be one of the best decisions she ever made as soon after she met the love of her life, Donald Parker Fowler, at one of the dances she loved so much. They were married on February 10, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Throughout their lives, they served faithfully in church callings and worked at the Jordan River Temple. They were privileged to see their daughters, as well as many of their grandchildren, married in the temple.

At times, mom worked at small jobs, but her focus was always her seven daughters who each felt a special love from her. She had a profound testimony of the Savior, which carried her through many trials, including the deaths of two of her daughters, Karen Fowler and Barbara Fowler Bruderer, and a great-grandson, Kevin Johnson Session.

Mom enjoyed living in Murray for so many years, but at age ninety-three she could no longer live alone. She moved to South Jordan to live with two of her daughters, Darla and Pam. Mom never tired of being a part of active family life. She loved living with her girls and seeing her other daughters and their families often.

Keeping up with mom wasn't easy, but it was fun! She enjoyed amazing health and youthfulness her entire life and had no idea what old age was until just few weeks before she passed. We all basked in her naturally cheerful nature, loving encouragement, and charming personality. Mom had a powerful influence on all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until the day she died. We rejoice knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband and our father and is as happy and busy as ever.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Legacy House and Brighton Hospice for the loving and kind care they gave our mother.

Beth is survived by five children, Sharrel Miller (Jerry), Pam Balfour (Stan), Darla Johnson (Wally), Kim Johnson (Layne), and Robin Connell (Sam); as well as thirty grandchildren and sixty great-grandchildren.

The funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, with a viewing prior from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Burial will follow the funeral in the Hooper Cemetery.
