George, was born in Newburgh, Orange Co., where his parents lived until about 1779 when his father, John, moved the family to Stillwater, Saratoga Co. George's brothers moved 1790-1800, then his parents moved after the 1800 Stillwater census to Rome, Oneida Co., his married sister's, Hanna, Mary "Polly", Nancy, Betsey, still need to be found.

per years of 7 children's birth's 1795-1807, George and Amy Hawkins married abt 1794, all born in Stillwater, all named in his 1861 Will (photo of pg 336 attached here, probate in Ballston Spa) : daughters, Polly Young, Hannah Hall, Elizabeth Fish, and Amy Arnold, of which only Polly is deeded land in Milton, deceased gdau. (dau. of Amy) Nancy Quackenbush and all her married children listed as heirs . Sons named in his Will were; James B, John, and David who lived and died in Saratoga County. According to George's brother, Jacob Wiggins', extensive 1833 civil war records on FOLD3, George was living in Malta by that year. In the 1850 & 60 census, they are found living near their married sons. His Will mentions that he was bed-ridden with bowel complaints 1851-2, thereafter seen daily about town, he was illiterate, needing help to "make his mark"

Information from Geo. extensive story-like and contested Will, which tells the story and details of the family: son-in-law, Wm Collamer, Jr., executer, Geo. was a man of considerable property, which he deeded, in the late 1850's, to son James B, 70 acres (of which 58 acres was swamp land)., David, 143 acres , and John getting the Malta 170 acre homestead 1859 (he had been living there with his father since 1852, per Will), and 84 acres in Milton conveyed to dau. Polly YOUNG (not found in census) with house and barn, 1 acre in Malta to grandson, George Young, during one of three amendment to the will, statement that living with he and wife are grandchildren, Wm YOUNG and Frances RILEY (great-grandchild, dau. of Frances Quackenbush-Riley).

George had a nephew, born 1814, named after him, by his Uncle Jacob of Rome, NY.

1850 & 60 Malta census finds much of the family farming next to each other, except the daughters who live in the county. 1860 finds George and son John on the family farm John inherits.
