Thomas Jr was the son of Thomas Joseph Sr and Genevieve M (O'Brien) Kennedy. His mother died two weeks after he was born. In the 1 Jan 1920 US Census, at age 2 mos, he was listed with the family of his maternal aunt, Ellen J (O'Brien) Kelly, in Baltimore City MD. His widowed father was listed in Boston MA. In the 1930 US Census, Thomas Jr resided in Belmont MA with his father, stepmother Mary G (McCarthy) Kennedy, and infant brother Robert. In 1940 the family resided in Mamaroneck NY.
