Julia's hobbies were Salsa-Country, dancing in the powwow, weaving, cooking, driving the school bus, and raising cats and dogs. Most of all, she enjoyed smiling, laughing and making friends.
Julia was married right out of high school. She had three boys and two girls. She became a bus driver and worked for Central Consolidated Schools for over 20 years before retiring. She grew up dancing in powwows, weaving and farming. She also had sympathy for stray cats and dogs. She was truly a daughter of God and no words will ever describe what a beautiful soul our dear mother was. She will be missed by all who know our mother.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Rose Russell; brothers, Jimmy Draper Sr. and Jimmy Draper Jr. and Robert Russell; and sister, Edith Russell.
She is survived by her sons, Romero J. Slim, and Jonathan J. Slim (Andreatta), both from Nenahnezad, and Christopher J. Slim of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Jolena A. Palau and Kristina A. Slim, both of Portland, Ore.; her brothers, Lenard Russell, Tommy Draper Sr. (Laura), Monroe Draper, James Draper, Michael Draper (Laurinda) and Robert Russell, all of Nenahnezad; sisters, Bernice Russell, Cecilia Benally, Brenda Chischilly (Melvin), Vera Peshlakai (Ernie), Laurene Becenti (Dexter), and Edith Russell all of Nenahnezad; ; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Elsie Greyhorse, paternal grandparents, Mary and John Russell of Nenahnezad; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 10 County Road 6523, off U.S. Hwy. 64 in Kirtland, with Bishop Ellsworth conducting. Interment will follow at Kirtland/Fruitland Community Cemetery in Kirtland. Reception will follow at Julia Draper's residence in Nenahnezad.
Pallbearers are Romero Slim, Johnathan Slim, Christopher Slim, Michael Draper, Rawley Sorrelhorse and Stacy Atcitty.
