Perry L. Sapp, Jr., age 59, passed away Tuesday, June 28th, 2016 at his home in Port Wentworth.

A native of Savannah, Perry was born on November 1st, 1956 to Perry L. Sapp, Sr. and Betty Louise Morris Sapp. Perry was a graduate of Herschel V. Jenkins High School. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served as a Corpsman during the Vietnam era for four years and then continued his service in the Naval Reserve. Perry later worked in maintenance at the old Chatham County Jail before retiring with a medical disability.

An avid collector, Perry was fascinated by anything nautical, antique “talking machines” and the 78 RPM records that they played, matchbook covers, antique toys, and several other things. He was also an ardent fan of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

He was a member of the IBEW Local #508, Chapter 671 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, and the American Legion Post 135.

Preceded in death by his father, his mother, and his daddy James C. Sapp, and his beloved sister Julie Sapp Reynolds, Perry is survived by his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Ellen Neesmith Sapp of Port Wentworth; his daughter Michelle Laurente of Santa Ysabel, California; sons, Michael J. Sapp (Lindsay) of Savannah and James L. Garland of Garden City; a brother, Terry “Denny” Sapp (Gail) of Eastanollee, Georgia; two sisters, Barbara “Bobbie” Souls (Kenny) of Faulkville and Ruby Sapp of Rincon; brother-in-law Sam Reynolds of Bloomingdale; granddaughter, Hannah Marlow of Garden City; several very special nieces and nephews.

Perry was greatly loved and will be missed by all of his family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 30th from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Port Wentworth Alliance Church. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 1st, at 10:00 A.M. in the Port Wentworth Alliance Church, The Reverend John Smith officiating. Interment: 12:00 P.M. in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
