Anniston - Rebecca "Becky" McElroy, 65, of Anniston, passed away on August 14, 2013, after a long illness. She was born on May 1, 1948 and spent most of her life in Calhoun County. She was preceded in death by her father, Jay McElroy. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, H. Ken McElroy; her sons J. Scott McClellan (Kelly), of Menlo Park, Calif., R. Brad McClellan (Rebecca), of Daphne, and her stepdaughters, Melissa M. Romeo (Jonathan) and Katie M. Robinson (Billy), both of Birmingham, along with her mother, Videra Harris King, of Anniston, and seven grandchildren. Becky graduated from Anniston High School in 1966 and received her B.S in Library Science from the University of Alabama in 1970. She received her Master's Degree from Jacksonville State University in 1984. She worked for almost 30 years as a Librarian and Media Specialist at Oxford High School and Anniston City Schools. Her cheerfulness and her passion for reading and education touched many lives. Becky had a great appreciation for all types of writing and literature, which she passed on to her children and her students. She was also a member of the American Herbal Society and was considered an expert herb gardener whose advice was sought after by local growers. She treasured time spent reading great books, caring for her gardens, and being with loved ones on their small farm near Jacksonville, Alabama. The family will receive visitors from 11:30-12:30 on Friday, August 16, 2013, at Gray Brown Service. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Becky's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Libraries of Oxford, Anniston or Jacksonville.
