Barbara Jean Haas 72, passed away into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father early in the morning on January 14, 2011, surrounded by her family and God's amazing grace. She was born on April 8, 1938 in Oakland, CA, and was the second of four children born to Rev. Norman and Grace Black. Barbara grew up in Oakdale, CA, where she attended and graduated from Oakdale Union High School with honors. She then studied at Modesto Junior College, and transferred to the University of California at Berkeley majoring in English, after scoring the highest of all Stanislaus county in the admittance exam for her major.

As a child, the gift of music was discovered in Barbara--she had a God-given talent in playing the piano and organ. She was able to read any piece of music that she was given, and played for her Grandfather and Father's church services, and used her gift when she played for one of the first Billy Graham crusades in Modesto, CA. She truly ministered through her music, and was an organist for many years in Yuba City at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and Grace Baptist Church. In 1957, Barbara Jean Black met a handsome young sailor named and they were married in Vallejo on April 12, 1958. Barbara and shared 52 loving years of marriage, and truly set a Godly example for all of our family. They lived in the Bay area for their first 19 years of marriage, and then moved to Yuba City in 1977.

After arriving in Yuba City, she worked at Yuba City Florist, Putman's, and most recently at Mervyn's. Barbara absolutely loved working in her garden. She tended to her many rose bushes with exquisite care. She also had a great love for animals, and loved her cats and chickens with a tender heart. Baking and cooking were things she enjoyed as well, and her family will miss her delicious lasagna and pumpkin pies. Barbara also was an amazing seamstress, and created many treasures for family members and friends over the years. She was a member of Calvary Christian Center in Yuba City and absolutely loved worshipping the Lord.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, her first born son, his wife and their children, her second child and her children, her third child, her husband, and their children, 6 great-grandchildren will be brought up to remember her committed spirit to the Lord. Barbara is also survived by her Uncle and Aunt, her brother and his wife, her sisters and their husbands. Numerous nieces and nephews were touched by Barbara's sweet spirit over the years also.

Waiting for her in heaven were her maternal Grandparents Rev. Vincent Coletta and Adelia Coletta; her paternal Grandparents, Edgar and Amy Agnes Black; her parents Rev. Norman J. Black and Grace Black, her Aunt Adeline Octavia Setzer, and her nephew Rodney Black. We will forever be grateful to the woman who was our Mother, Wife, Sister, Aunt, Niece, Grandma, and Granddaughter for her spiritual heritage. Memorial contributions in Barbara's name to the A.S.P.C.A., or the would be greatly appreciated. A Celebration of Barbara's precious life will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Calvary Christian Center, 2620 Colusa Highway, Yuba City, at 12:00 pm.
